Family Leadership
High Expectations has a strong history of working alongside families to advance equity through family engagement, leadership development, and organizing.
We build the capacity of schools to establish Family-Led Leadership Teams of families and school staff that come together to support improved student outcomes, school climate and culture.
African American Parent Advisory Council
The African American Parent Advisory Council is an advocacy group, made up of families, teachers, administrators, and community members, dedicated to the success of their children, and ultimately all African American students at their school. During monthly meetings, Council members:
  • Build community among African American families at the school site
  • Learn strategies for supporting their child’s education
  • Advocate for programs, strategies, and practices that will advance outcomes for African American students
  • Plan student and family events and activities that support the success of African American students
Family-Led Literacy Team
The Family-Led Literacy Team is a group of enthusiastic family leaders and key school staff who come together to support improved reading outcomes. This team designs, implements and evaluates a literacy project that offers families easy to use tools and resources that support their child’s reading success.
